Who likes a riddle?

I'm a sucker for riddles. I like them and if I can brag for just a second, I tend to be able to figure a lot of them out. And as many times as I hear this one below......it is still one of my favorites. Can you figure it out?

What is greater than God, more evil than the devil, the rich want it, the poor have it, and if you eat it you'll die?
